At SDI Media he oversaw EMEA regional standards for subtitle and dubbing deliverables to Netflix. At iflix he built-up 14 subtitle teams internationally with MT spanning 22 language pairs, in addition to voice recognition and screenplay analysis workflows and tools using a variety of features that he co-designed and oversaw the development of with Omniscien Technologies. At Astro Malaysia he heads-up MAM-based content engineering automation initiatives leveraging Machine Learning for metadata enrichment as well as the integration of their cloud-based subtitle production platform.
Amir Kamran is the Senior Data Engineer at TAUS, managing TAUS’s data related services: DATA Cloud and Matching Data. Previously, he worked as a research software developer on various NLP related projects in University of Amsterdam and Charles University in Prague.
Amir has a 10+ years of software development experience with a masters degree in Language and Communication Technologies as an Erasmus Mundus scholar.
Bob is the founder and CEO of Hay Digital, a digital strategy consulting business whose clients include Big 4 management consultancies and large technology firms.
Bob has worked throughout the Asia/Pacific region for over 30 years in roles as diverse as setting up Gartner research, building KPMG management consulting practices, as CTO for DXC and as a co-founder of technology firms including Omniscien Technologies.
Bruno Jakic has been interested in programming and computers since the age of 12. Bruno earned his Bachelor’s in Artificial Intelligence in 2009. He founded AI-Applied together with Mark Mooij in 2005. He is the former first CTO of eight consecutive year award-winning ecommerce player iBOOD.com, which was recently sold to Media-Saturn.
Chetan is the Asia Pacific Leader for Watson AI Business. Prior to his current role, he was the SaaS leader for ASEAN and also led the strategy for Cloud business across Asia Pacific. Chetan has also led cross functional teams and delivered various customer experience and business initiatives. He has worked in both MNC’s and start-ups across geographies in various roles. Chetan holds a MS degree from The University of Arizona, USA and MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, India.
Originally from Dublin, Ireland, Conor has held a diverse range of technical and management positions worldwide before deciding to build a company that would take advantage of the new possibilities of global cooperation afforded by the Internet and emerging multimedia technologies. Conor is a founder of the Irish-Thai Chamber of Commerce and is fluent in English and Thai.
David joined MESA Europe as Director of Communications in June 2013, following a near 30 year career in research and consulting within the technology sector.
David was previously with Futuresource Consulting where he steered much of the group’s work across the storage media, electronics and entertainment content sectors. Prior to that he was with the technology consulting group BIS.
David has spoken at numerous events around the world and has been a regular contributor to the activities of a number of industry associations in the technology space.
His role within MESA Europe is to expand the membership services and support what the association can offer across Europe, at regional and national level. David has language skills in French, German and Italian.
David holds a BA (Hons) degree in European Studies (German/Italian) from the University of Bath.
Dion Wiggins is a highly experienced ICT industry visionary, entrepreneur, analyst and consultant. He has an impressive knowledge in the fields of software development, architecture and management, as well as an in-depth understanding of Asian ICT markets. He is an accomplished speaker and has a high media profile for his perceptive analysis of ICT in Asia/Pacific.
Previously Dion was Vice President and Research Director for Gartner based in Hong Kong, where he was the most senior and highly-respected analyst based in all of Asia. Dion’s research reports on ICT in China helped change the way the world views this market.
Dion is also a well-known pioneer of the Asian Internet Industry, being the founder of one of Asia’s first ever ISPs (Asia Online in Hong Kong). In his role at Gartner and in various other consulting positions prior to that, Dion advised literally hundreds of enterprises on their ICT strategy.
Dion was a founder of The ActiveX Factory, where he was recipient of the Chairman’s Commendation Award presented by Microsoft’s Bill Gates for the best showcase of software developed in the Philippines. The US Government has recognized Dion as being in the top 5% of his field worldwide and he is a former holder of a US O1 Extraordinary Ability Visa.
Eric de Boer was trained as a medical doctor but shifted his education to mathematical psychology. With 10+ years at Hay Group he currently is Business Development Director at KornFerry. At KornFerry, Eric is an expert in employee engagement survey design and analysis. He correlates statistical models from proprietary databases to clients’ business outcomes and has run multiple projects for global clients.
Kfir Bar is the Chief Scientist at Basis Technology. He has spent many years working in a wide range of natural language processing (NLP) disciplines, including neural machine translation and named entity recognition for anti-crime/terror applications. Kfir focuses on combining linguistic knowledge with sophisticated AI algorithms, for extracting the most important information from a piece of text. The AI applications he builds are integrated into many of the world’s leading anti-money laundering platforms.
In addition, Kfir is a lecturer at Tel Aviv University where he teaches courses in computer science, digital humanities, machine learning and natural language processing. He holds a PhD in computer science from Tel Aviv University.
Before Basis, he worked for Intuview as CTO, supporting national security and counter-terrorism missions by deducing authorship, sentiment, intent, and other contextual information. In 2013, he co-founded Comprendi, which transforms big data into actionable marketing insights.
Gema made sure that she could mix her two passions: languages and computers. She is the CEO of Prompsit (www.prompsit.com), a language technology provider with a strong focus on data curation, tailored MT services and multilingual applications. She is co-author of various research papers, an active developer the Apertium MT platform (apertium.org) and the vice president of ARTES Cultura y Ocio (www.artesculturayocio.org), an association for inclusive leisure for disabled and non-disabled people.
Martine Massiera joined Omniscien Technologies in September 2017 as EMEA Sales Director.
Prior to this role, she held several senior executive positions with global technology companies, digital publishing organizations and with global Technology & Strategy Consulting organisations. More recently Martine held several Global Sales Executive positions in the Intellectual Property Industry, leading the transformation of the patent data business.
Mazin is the Director of Business Development, UK & Europe at ZOO Digital. Having worked in international localisation and post-production sector for over 20 years, his previous positions include Managing Director of UK at BTI Studios, Vice President of Localisation at Deluxe Europe and Head of Operations at Visiontext.
For the last 10 years, Mazin has managed international localisation, digital and DVD operations in addition to upholding his role as a key sales and business development leader. Mazin has an extensive knowledge of European and North American entertainment markets covering theatrical, home video, broadcast and VOD.
Michele Smith joined SDI Media in 2004 in the Los Angeles office. She has been working with media related companies for the last 25 years, starting in finance and eventually switched to operations.
Michele has held multiple operations roles within the SDI organization throughout the world, having lived and worked in North America, Europe and now Asia. Michele’s involvement in large scale change management projects and operational workflows has helped to shape the company, consistently working to right-size the organization for scaling potential. Michele has an MBA from Pepperdine University.
Dr. Miquel Esplà-Goms graduated in Computer Engineering in 2004 and got his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering in 2016. He also got a M.Sc. in Computer technologies in 2010.
After working as a research assistant in a variety of public and private projects at the Universitat d’Alacant since 2009, he is currently a post-doctoral researcher and part-time lecturer. He is the author of about 30 articles in international journals, conferences and workshops, most of them focused on quality estimation of translation technologies and creation of resources for machine translation.
Dr. Esplà-Gomis has contributed to several free/open-source projects related to machine translation such as Apertium, GamblrCAT, and Bitextor, the pipeline used in the Paracrawl project.
Philipp Koehn is Professor of Computer Science at Johns Hopkins University and Chief Scientist for Omniscien Technologies. He also holds the Chair for Machine Translation in the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh. Philipp is a leader in the field of statistical machine translation research with over 100 publications. He is the author of the seminal textbook in the field. Under his leadership the open source Moses system became the de-facto standard toolkit for machine translation in research and commercial deployment.
Philipp led international research projects such as Euromatrix and CASMACAT. Philipp’s research has been funded by the European Union, DARPA, Google, Facebook, Amazon, Bloomberg and several other funding agencies.
Philipp received his PhD in 2003 from the University of Southern California and was a postdoctoral research associate at MIT. He was a finalist in the European Patent Office’s European Inventor Award in 2013 and received the Award of Honor from the International Association of Machine Translation in 2015.
At Omniscien Technologies Philipp has refined machine translation technology for use in real-world deployments and helped to develop methods for data acquisition and refinement. Philipp continues to drive innovation and technological development at Omniscien Technologies.
Renato Beninatto is the author of The General Theory of the Translation Company, a book written with coauthor Tucker Johnson and based on a class he teaches at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies. As CEO and cofounder of Nimdzi, Renato brings decades of experience everywhere he goes. With extensive experience in international consulting, market research, sales and marketing, he provides the strategic direction that helps better serve clients worldwide.
Sharyn joined Deluxe Entertainment Services Group in summer 2018 as Senior Vice-President for Worldwide Business Development & Strategic Planning for Deluxe’s Distribution division.
From Mastering to Localisation to Delivery, and everything in-between, Sharyn’s focus is to develop key commercial strategies for Deluxe that speak to our clients and address the rapidly changing global marketplace they face.
Sharyn’s media career spans 20 years, of which the last 15 were spent with SDI Media as Head of Worldwide Sales and Client Services. Working across a global remit covering theatrical, home video, broadcast, and VOD services, a particular focus for Sharyn was how technology integrations, particularly automation could create more efficient localisation workflows, maximising the time for the creative components of the process, under the pressure of ever shrinking windows.
Sunil is engineering graduate from Mumbai University with 24+ years of IT industry experience across various domains such as Telecom (BSS & OSS), Government, Education, Life-Science and HealthCare.
Currently Sunil is responsible for Machine Learning project deliveries as part of Data Practice within Persistent. Over the years Sunil has led and driven technology practice around Microsoft, Business Intelligence and recently Machine Learning/Data Science.
Sunil has vast experience building and implementing web applications, Portals, Enterprise Application Integration, Data Warehouse, Business Intelligence, Data Lakes, Machine learning solutions. Sunil has worked with both ISVs to build framework based solutions and Enterprises to do system integration projects.
Tommaso Cesano is Head of Strategy and Business Development at Metaliquid an Italian startup offering a a deep-learning based video analysis solution designed for the media and broadcast industry.
He has gained a significant experience working at service design and innovation strategy projects with a strong tech, digital and interaction design positioning both as a consultant and entrepreneur.
